For any couple organising a wedding the bridal wear, and more specifically the bride’s dress, is the most important item to get right. There are numerous options available and this does depend on the amount of money available to spend. The choices range from high street chain stores that offer dresses ‘off the peg’ at reasonable prices, to small boutiques that will design and produce a made to measure dress, to boutiques that sell designer made outfits. These are at the top end of the price scale.
A bride, if they are looking for a wedding dress needs to consider the colour of the dress. The most popular colours are champagne, white and ivory as they are the classic bridal colour, but any colour is now accepted. There are many different materials and weights of fabric that can be used and the classic wedding dress tends to be built up from many layers of fabric creating the desired effect. Wedding dresses can be decorated with beads or trimmed with satin or lace. These choices will be offered by the boutique. Brides also need to consider the type of head dress or veil that is to be worn, and also whether the dress will have a train that is popular in church weddings for the walking up the aisle. Once the style of the dress has been decided upon there will then be measuring to be done and various fittings to make sure the dress is truly made to measure. The length of time that it can take to have a dress custom made can vary depending on the level of detail that has to go into the dress.
Once the bride’s dress has been decided upon the next decision is, what are the brides maid’s going to wear. Traditionally bridesmaid’s will wear pastel coloured or floral dresses that will compliment the bride’s dress and the theme of the wedding. Again the bridesmaid’s dresses can be bought at either a large department store or at a boutique where these dresses too can be tailor made.
Depending how far the budget will stretch for the big day there are other people in the wedding party that can also be fitted with special wedding outfits. It is very common for the members of the family that are helping to pay for the wedding day take out a personal loan to help ease the financing The groom can wear a morning suit, top and tails or just a formal suit. The groom and best man tend to fit in with the bride and the wedding theme by the colour of their tie or waistcoat. There is also the mother of the bride that it tends to be customary to have an outfit that compliments the theme of the wedding. Wedding parties can be extended to the parents of the bride and groom, the ushers, page boy and the flower girl.
